Treatment and Aging of Metal

Copper --- Our copper dryer exhaust vents, copper roof vents, and other copper exhaust vents will oxidize over time and change color to either a brown or greenish hue (patina).

See our Copper Vent Weatherization Timeline Chart

Many people value the ornamental look of the metal after this aging and the change in color depends on the climate of the area you live. Timing of the color change of your vents will depend on the exposure of the product to the elements. In dryer climates the copper vents tend to develop a patina color while in more humid and wet climates the copper changes a darker brown color. An alternative to allowing the natural aging process is to coat the product with a weather protective clear coating that will maintain the copper color for years to come.

Stainless Steel -- A high quality metal, stainless steel vent will only tarnish slightly as water dries on the surface; however, the stainless steel vent finish is easily regained by wiping the service with water or a cleaning solution.

Galvanized -- Galvanized metal vents will hold a finish well over time, however many people prefer to paint the metal a color that matches their roof or exterior wall color. For best results with painting, a paint primer is recommended or you can rub an acidic solution (lemon juice, vinegar) on the vent before painting it.

Customer Colors -- We now offer customer powder coating solutions for minimum orders of any six vents so you can match your exterior paint color with long lasting, heavy duty coating that will look good for a long time. See customer color vents here.
